Missed a semaglutide dose?
The rule depends on the product. These are the FDA label instructions; your prescriber's instructions come first.
Wegovy (semaglutide 2.4 mg for weight)
- If your next dose is more than 2 days (48 hours) away, take the missed dose as soon as you remember.
- If your next dose is less than 2 days away, skip the missed dose and take the next one on your regular day.
- Missed more than 2 doses in a row? Call your prescriber. The label says to resume as prescribed or restart at a lower step to limit stomach side effects.
Ozempic (semaglutide for diabetes)
- If it has been 5 days or less since the missed dose, take it as soon as you remember, then go back to your usual day.
- If it has been more than 5 days, skip it and take the next dose on your regular day.
Compounded semaglutide vials
Compounded products do not have an FDA label. Most prescribers use the Wegovy 48-hour rule. Ask the clinic that prescribed it; the answer is usually in your welcome packet.
Do not double up
Never take two doses to "catch up." Two doses close together sharply raise the chance of nausea, vomiting and dehydration.
Been off it for weeks?
After 2 or more missed weeks, many prescribers restart one step lower and move back up. Your weekly dose dates will shift; the dose schedule calculator maps the new dates.
